Jamestown is the largest school district in Chautauqua County. The second-most cases come from Dunkirk (25 cases) followed by Falconer (18), Silver Creek (14), Cassadaga Valley (12) and Brocton and Gowanda with 10 cases each.
There are roughly 17,500 students enrolled in area public schools, which means roughly 1% of school students have contracted COVID-19 over the past two weeks, slightly higher than the 0.69% rate for Chautauqua County as a whole.
One piece of information not given by schools or the state is the number of people who are forced into quarantine if they are a close contact of someone who has contracted COVID-19, though as of Monday the Chautauqua County Health Department reported 1,282 people countywide in quarantine.
Cases in schools are largely centered around students, with data submitted from schools showing nine teachers total being diagnosed with COVID-19 over the past two weeks and 23 stsaff members.
There have been nearly 175 COVID cases among school students in The Post-Journal’s coverage area over the past 14 days — the majority of them coming from the Jamestown Public Schools District.
The information comes from the state’s COVID-19 Report Card for schools. Schools have been reporting the data since mid-September, but the information hasn’t been shared by the state until Monday.
