Amazon announces new speaker, exercise band, home robot and more

Like Echo devices, Astro has a microphones/cameras-off button customers can press whenever they want to turn off cameras, mics, and motion.

Amazon held its 2021 edition of its annual hardware event. And like previous years, the company announced a slew of devices. The list includes new editions to the Echo Show family, flying security cameras, home robots and more.

  • Amazon has announced its first home robot, Astro. The robot serves three primary functions: guard home security, monitor loved ones and offer portable Alexa experience.

  • When this button is pressed, Astro cannot move, or capture video or audio, and a dedicated red LED is illuminated to match the red status indicator on screen. It is priced at $999.

Amazon introduced Echo Show 15, a new addition to the Echo Show family. Echo Show are smart speakers with displays. The all-new Echo Show 15 comes with a 15.6-inch, 1080p Full HD display that can be mounted on a wall or placed on a counter -— either in portrait or landscape orientation.

At 15.6-inch, this is the biggest Echo Show to launch yet.

The Echo Show 15 is built with the next-generation Amazon AZ2 Neural Edge processor, a redesigned home screen with more customization options, new personalization features with visual ID, and new Alexa experiences. Echo Show 15 will be available at $249.99 in the US. The company has not disclosed the India pricing yet.

Halo View: Fitness bands (may come to India) Amazon expands into the health fitness devices space with the launch of Amazon Halo View. Halo View is a new health tracker with an AMOLED color display for at-a-glance access to health metrics. Halo View comes with sensors that can track activity, sleep, blood oxygen levels and live workout.

It can send sedentary alerts and more. There’s also an optical sensor to monitor heart rate and body temperature. Halo View is lightweight, swim-proof, with up to seven days of battery life, and, as per the company, can fully charge in under 90 minutes. The fitness band is priced at $80.
