Nunez was in Merseyside yesterday to complete his medical, which stretched through Monday afternoon, and when the results are confirmed in the morning, it will pave the way for his transfer from Benfica to be agreed.
And the Reds could well offset much of that outlay by selling Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, with a £42m deal moving closer as talks with the German club proceed.
While Liverpool are likely to unveil the striker on Tuesday after agreeing terms subject to his medical, they can’t officially register him as their player until the Portuguese transfer window opens on July 1.
Mane is said to have agreed a three year contract with Bayern for around £360,000 a week…a figure Liverpool refused to pay, as they strive to work within a defined wage structure that sees Virgil van Dijk the top earner on around £220,000 a week.
The club has agreed to pay what will amount to an all time record Anfield fee for the Uruguay international, in a deal which will see them pay £64m down, and then various incentive based bonuses which could eventually rise to almost £85m.
The 22 year old will sign a six year contract, said to be worth around £5.2m a year NET, which amounts to around £170,000 a week.
But the deal has been completed and only the medical formalities remained on Monday evening, as Nunez joins Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield revolution.
