Pre-registration is required and can be made at www.eventbrite.com/. Choose Altoona as the location and click on the icon for the 2021 Blair County HHW Event to register. There is no charge to register and tickets are not required to enter the event.
Items that will be accepted include fluorescent bulbs and tubes; mercury-containing items, such as smoke detectors/thermostats; lead acid batteries; automotive fluids, such as used motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters & etc.; pesticides and fertilizers; flammables and corrosives, such as paint thinner and drain cleaner; spray paint and other aerosol cans; latex and oil-based paints.
Those taking part in the collection are asked to place materials to be recycled in the vehicle’s trunk or truck bed.
No medication, alkaline batteries, electronics or tires will be accepted.
The annual Blair County Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, July 23, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the Jaffa Shrine Center, 2200 Broad Ave., Altoona.
There will be a base charge of $15 per car trunk-load with an additional charge of 50 cents a pound for all paints. Payments in cash or check only are due when items are dropped off.
Also at this year’s event, food trucks will be on hand.
On Friday, July 23, Doug’s Dawgs and Fred’s Flatbreads will be open, with Doug’s Dawgs returning Saturday, July 24, along with The Rotating Chef.
