Nevada Small Business Association estimates 100K jobs open nationwide | News

“It’s been 18 months and [small businesses are] still struggling. We are not back to full service. We are not back to full volume. We are not back to full employment,” Randi Thompson with the organization said.

Thompson says fears over COVID-19 exposure are still a big factor for many workers.

Local restaurant The Codfather has been forced to close Sundays and Mondays due to a shortage of workers.

Economists are seeing the trend across the country, with certain industries such as healthcare, construction and hospitality seeing a slow return of workers.

Story Highlights

  • The latest statistics are from the Nevada Small Business Association, or the National Federation of Independent Businesses in Nevada.

  • “Most businesses are based on volume. They need volume to stay afloat,” Thompson said.

“I can’t afford to compete with the Strip and what they pay. But even so I got friends that work on the Strip; they still struggle, they have the same problems [hiring],” said owner Glynn Branhall.

Thompson suggests employers offer higher pay, or flexible hours, in order to make jobs more lucrative.
