An inmate at the Blair County Prison who escaped a work detail last week is back in custody, court documents stated.

According to the Altoona Police Facebook page, police discovered Hampton at 1 a.m. Sunday at a residence in the Juniata section of Altoona.

He was serving time for violating his parole on drug offenses, according to court documents.

Police said Hampton escaped custody Thursday while working at Fairview Cemetery, 1611 Ninth St.

  • William Hampton, 41, was arraigned Sunday by Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on one felony charge of escaping custody, the criminal docket stated.

Hampton was returned to the Blair County Prison after being unable to post cash bail of $200,000.

His preliminary hearing is set for July 28 before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio.
