The Magnolia Blue Eagles hosted the Monroe Central Seminoles Friday evening September 24, 2021, at Alumni Field-Bill Stewart Memorial Stadium for their homecoming game. The Eagles got routed by the Seminoles 43-19 and drop to 1-2 on the season after returning to play following a two week lay-off due to increased Covid numbers in the school. The Eagles suffered five turnovers and several miscues in the loss.

Monroe Central received the opening kickoff of the game returning it to their own 44-yard line to start the first series. Rose-Burton raced 56 yards on the first play for the touchdown, but a holding call negated the score. Rose-Burton with big runs took the ball to the hosts 22 yard-line and on a fourth down hit Carter Knowlton wide open in the back of the end zone to put the Noles up 6-0 with 7:10 left in the opening quarter. The 2-pt conversion attempt failed.

The Seminoles jumped out to a 28-12 halftime lead with quarterback Malachi Rose-Burton having a huge first half with 8 carries for 108 yards including one rushing td, 4-9 passing for 94 yards and 3 td’s, and had two interceptions on defense. He would finish the game with 11 totes for 172 yards, 2 rushing scores, and three touchdown passes, plus he picked got three interceptions from his safety position on the ndefensive side of the ball.

Magnolia answered right back for a score with a nice drive culminating in sophomore running back Kaden Johnson going in from 10 yards out to knot the score with 4:40 on the clock in the first quarter. Brendan Mirandy kick was no good to keep the score tied at 6-6. Johnson had a nice run of 44 yards in the drive.

The next Seminoles drive stalled at the Blue Eagles 24, and they turned the ball back to Coach Dave Chapman’s squad, but a bad snap over QB’s Mirandy’s head set them back further, and Rose-Burton then picked off his first pass from Mirandy to end the first quarter at the Eagles 40 yard-line for the visitors.

With 9:01 in the second frame Rose-Burton plunged in from one yard out for a 12-6 lead, Rose-Burton hit Dillion Lincoln for the 2-pt. conversion to make it 14-6 and the visiting Noles never looked back to cruise to their second victory of the year against three defeats at the hands of good teams. Magnolia’s next drive stalled after a nice 32-yard run from Johnson, as they fumbled on the next play turning it back over to Central at their own 34.

The visitors did not take long to make the score 22-6 with 7:45 left before halftime, Rose-Burton hit Lincoln with a six-yard strike and the QB then hit Xavier Kinney for the 2-pt. conversion. Following the Seminoles punt the Blue had a series of bad snaps and penaltiesThe hosts with bad snaps, penalties and had to punt. The visitors returned it to their own 44 yard-line where they went to work and added another score on a 56 yard TD strike from Rose-Burton to Lincoln making it 28-6 as the conversion attempt failed.

Magnolia took the kickoff and added a score on a 16-yard run by Marcus Barnes with 1:15 left on the clock, the 2-pt. conversion failed, and the score was 28-12 at the break in favor of the Seminoles. Coach Josh Ischy’s visiting Noles scored with 5:48 on the third quarter clock with Rose-Burton going in from 15 yards out. His pass to freshman Tucker Howell for the 2-pt. conversion was good to up the lead to 36-12 for the victors.

Magnolia got a good rushing performance from Johnson who finished with 111 yards on 19 totes and a td. The Blue Eagles picked up 12 first downs in the contest and had 214 yards rushing on 37 carries Narcus Barnes added 52 on 10 totes. Mirandy was 9-16 passing for 89 yards and three interceptions. Johnson was the leading receiver with 6 grabs for 42 yards, while Vargo snatched two passess for 36 yards and a TD. The Blue Eagles lost two fumbles and were penalized 9 times for 67 yards. The Blue Eagles will need to regroup quickly because a 4-1 high powered Union Local team will pay a visit to Alumni Field next Friday evening October 1st.

The Blue Eagles would add a 25-yard td pass to Brayden Vargo from QB Mirandy with 1:15 remaining in the game, PAT was good from Mirandy to make the final score 43-19. Monroe Central added another touchdown with 3:51 left in the contest, Howell threw a 31-yard dart to Knowlton, Lincoln kicked the extra point to make the score 43-12.
